A laptop is a small laptop that runs on a battery or an external AC / DC adapter that charges the battery and at the same time supplies power to the computer itself. Laptops are becoming very popular these days as they are full-featured computers that can be easily used anywhere.

You need to protect a laptop from being stolen. Theft of a laptop can be prevented through the use of locks, alarms, software recovery system (SRS), etc.

SRSs are tracking utilities that periodically connect to a central server. The SRS can track the location of your laptop on the internet and summon the local police to retrieve it.

Hard drive encryption is another way to protect a laptop from data loss. Hard drive encryption helps you protect your valuable business data in case your laptop is lost. Windows Vista Enterprise and Ultimate editions include a drive encryption feature called Bit Locker.

Bit Locker allows a flash drive to store the software’s encryption keys. Bit Locker Drive Encryption is a full disk encryption feature included with Microsoft’s Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Enterprise, and Windows Server 2008 operating systems, designed to protect data by providing encryption for entire volumes.

Macs come with their own hard drive encryption software, known as File Vault. Like BitLocker in Windows Vista, it protects the data on your drive from analytical eyes in case thieves get away with it. File Vault uses encrypted file systems. The user’s home directory is encrypted using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and automatically encrypts content during data communication.

Recovery Tags Service (RTS) in another way to protect laptop theft. In the Recovery Label Service you must register each article on the Web, with identifying information; they then contact you to arrange a return if an item is found.
