spotlights from the talented author Simon Plaster, is his latest satirical novel starring a small-town reporter, Henrietta, who is from the actual small town of Henryetta, Oklahoma. In Spots, Henrietta travels to Oklahoma City, where the novel primarily takes place, to report on the days leading up to a television awards show in which awards are given out for best actors/actresses in TVC or television commercials, also known as " places." Because of this, aside from Henrietta and her mother, Wynona Sue, many recurring characters from Plaster’s other novels in the series do not appear in Spots, but that is more than made up for with her cast of new characters, including some from commercials. Famous. , like William Shatner, the insurance girl, Flo, and the two guys who are currently in commercials for Sonic.

the plot of spotlights revolves around the antics and intrigue associated with actors and actresses competing for awards in Oklahoma City, when the Academy of Television Commercial Arts and Sciences is forced to move its annual awards ceremony from Las Vegas to OK C. Henrietta, now a reporter for OKC’s Tinseltown SCENE newspaper, wants to get a scoop that she hopes will land her a Pulitzer Prize.

In addition to the usual gossip and rumors that circulate, and the rivalries that exist between TVC stars, such as one Plaster writes between Flo and her nearly identical sister, Chloe (Clo), who appears in commercials for Transgressive Insurance Company, there are There are rumors of a plot to assassinate at least one of TVC’s stars, but which, Henrietta wonders, could be the first to die? Is it possibly Flo or Chloe, maybe, or the bald guy from the insurance commercials who seems to know a lot about what people are doing, or maybe one of the guys from Sonic, or even Jimmy Mayhem, Colonel Sanders, or William Shatner? ?

Deano DeBoffo is also one of the main characters in Spot. He is a famous Hollywood producer/director and he wants to create a docudrama that is basically a long commercial, called “What’s in your wallet?” In addition to the Spots plot, it involves his efforts to convince some of the TVC actors meeting in OKC to sign up with him to be in his planned movie.

spotlights is a highly entertaining satirical game that pokes fun at award shows and the actors and actresses who appear in some of the most famous TV commercials of recent times. It’s probably a novel that would be most enjoyed by adults young and old, as Plaster also references many old commercials that many adults will remember fondly, such as the ones for Alka Seltzer, with catchphrases like “That’s a spicy meatball!” and “Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief!”

I found the infighting between many of the TVC stars very funny, as well as whenever Simon Plaster wrote scenes that included Jimmy Mayhem. Plaster has written, with spotlights, one of his best satirical novels so far. Will Henrietta’s reporting for OKC Tinseltown SCENE earn her the Pulitzer Prize she feels she so richly deserves? Who is behind the rumors and apparent attempts to kill TVC stars? Verify spotlights discover! It’s an entertaining satirical novel that I highly recommend, along with Plaster’s other novels featuring small-town reporter Henrietta as Hmm, Ticks: a climate change tail and a girlY hogback!
