Small dog breeds are becoming increasingly popular with dog lovers around the world for a number of reasons. If you’re thinking of getting a new puppy for your home, here are a few reasons why you might want to go with a smaller breed instead of a large breed.

Smaller grocery bill

One of the reasons you might want to choose a smaller breed of dog would be to save money on your monthly food bill for them. Smaller dogs eat much less than their larger counterparts, so you’ll be spending much less of your budget on the food you need to buy for them each month. Why? Simple, because they have smaller stomachs and require less daily food intake. Have you ever seen a Newfoundland or even a Great Lab eat only half a scoop of food a day? Probably not, and if you did, it would probably be skin and bone and very unhealthy.

Trip

In general, it is easier to travel with smaller dogs because they take up less space in your vehicle. Large dogs can take up a lot of space and can be a distraction to you while driving, especially if they have to sit in the front seat next to you, which can be a dangerous distraction. Small dogs will only take up a small part of your front or back seat, so there will be plenty of room for other people or luggage.

Home alone

If you have to spend much of the day away from home at work or elsewhere, then it would be easier to leave a small dog at home because they don’t have to be taken out as much to go to the bathroom, and you can train them to use pads at instead of having to go out. You can train your big dog to use the pads, but because they are bigger, the messes will be bigger too, which could create a messy situation in your home.
