The Battle for Fall of Folsom was an amphibious assault on the beaches of Midway during World War II. As one of the amphibious invasion teams, the BF 2042 had to overcome enemy soldiers while conducting operations against the Japanese at sea. It was here that the name of the story begins. As darkness fell on the morning of Midway, the first of the amphibious assault watercraft were scheduled to leave for a rendezvous with the rest of the group.
Unfortunately, while making their way out of the water, the amphibious group encountered a Japanese convoy and was ambushed. As casualties increased, support from other groups also arrived to relieve the plight of the stricken troops. Fighting broke out again in the late hours of the day, and it was then that the famous “Blitz” was activated.
The fighting became so fierce that the USS Wisconsin was detaching to refit and re-arm for battle. A message was then dispatched to the other participating amphibious forces to cease all land operations and put all their efforts into the air battle. The timing of this message was critical: just as the United States military was in need of amphibious troops to help defeat Japan in the Pacific Ocean, the German military was facing the same problem! As the British Army and the American Fifth Army (PAF) were preparing to launch their land invasion of France, the Germans started building up their own forces. Fleeing to England, they left behind heavy naval mines that blocked Allied shipping.
Battle of Midway – A BF 2042 Clans Tale
In mid 1944, the US Army in addition to the British and Canadian Armies began constructing a mock island, located at the tip of Guidedong Bay. This mock island was to serve as a simulator for the eventual invasion of Midway. On board the cruiser USS Wisconsin, there was an advance party of Canadian and US Army troops who practiced fighting on the island. In this simulated island setting, they engaged in hand-to-hand combat, performed off hand exercises, and performed a variety of maneuvers. This practice was well worth it to the crew members as they saw combat time again, and learned valuable lessons in maneuver and combat techniques. It would be years before these maneuvers would become reality, but this was a start.
Once the war was over, the Canadians and US Navy continued to practice their skills at Midway. During this time, the US Army had yet to procure any amphibious vehicles of their own. Their Amphibious Attack Vehicles, or AAV, were still in the processing stage. The Canadians, however, got their first taste of deploying their own amphibious assault vehicles when they became involved in the First World War. Although they never had a chance to use their AAV’s in combat, the Canadians had learned valuable lessons in amphibious warfare. They were able to use their experience to upgrade their existing AAV’s to support the US Army in upcoming wars, such as in the Korean War.
Today, with the advent of computer games, the gaming world has once again been enamored with the story of the Battle of Midway. Players from around the world are now replaying one of the most pivotal battles in the history of the world. The latest version of the game involves the players taking command of a Canadian troop carrier. The game lets them experience the tense and exciting moments that take place as the troops of the Canadians’ clan fight their way through the beaches of Midway to reach the beaches of the Japanese home port city of Chotki.
