Some beaches stand out for their surfing, others for their swimming. Some are good family beaches, others attract singles looking to meet and mingle. Some attract visitors for their wonderful sand, others for their wonderful water.

Playa Boquerón in Puerto Rico has all of these things, along with some of the most beautiful coastal scenery on the island. It really is a complete beach, and if you are traveling outside of San Juan during your visit to PR, this is a stop to include in your itinerary.

Boqueron Beach is in the southwestern corner of Puerto Rico, about as far from San Juan as you can get here. But keep in mind that since the island is about as big as the US state of Connecticut, you can drive here from the city in one day.

Boquerón is also the name of a funky little beach town, where you can buy food and other amenities to spend the day lazing by the tropical blue waters.

Being so far (relatively speaking) from San Juan, this is also a great place to learn to speak Spanish quickly. Unlike the island’s capital, here most of the locals only speak Spanish, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to practice.

Start brushing up on your Spanish before you leave home. By the time you land in Puerto Rico, and even more so when you arrive in Boquerón to enjoy its great beach, you will already be on your way to learning to speak Spanish quickly.
