Impartiality according to US lawmakers Is the US justice system impartial? I really doubt it. Like so many things in the US, it is money that does the talking and is the motivating factor in all decisions in the US.

If someone has the money, they have a better chance of justice. Sometimes we see on television cases of rich celebrities appearing in court for something; it is a safe bet that they have a much better chance of getting a better result for themselves than if they had no means to pay the legal costs. Simply put, the poor are denied a fair trial. But that’s not the only problem with regard to bias.

Someone can intentionally murder someone and be released after 15 to 20 years, while another person whose actions led to the death of another but never intended to kill the victim can receive life in prison without the possibility of parole. This is the situation Jennifer Mee found herself in.

At the age of nineteen, he made a date with a young man after contacting him on Facebook but with the intention of robbing him. Her two male friends carried out the robbery that had fatal consequences. Under Florida law, all participants in a fatal robbery are equally guilty of murder. Jennifer was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

How could such a harsh sentence be justified? “Intentional” is a keyword here. It means: “It’s done on purpose.”

There is absolutely no question that Jennifer never planned or intended to kill the victim. It appears that the person who pulled the trigger was caught in the moment during the fight between Jennifer’s two friends and the victim.

When one hears of intentional murder cases resulting in much lower sentences, it is not hard to conclude that the American justice system has a long way to go before it can claim to be impartial.

What does impartial mean? “Unbiased” means having an opinion of something that is fair or unbiased.” “Partial” means supporting one side of the dispute, rather than being fair and unbiased.” I believe that anyone who believes that the American justice system is balanced is delusional.

Jennifer did not intend to harm the young man she dated, showed no hostility towards him, and certainly never intended to kill him, so how could one possibly justify a life sentence without parole? You are the judge!!
