While the actual rules for playing Boggle are pretty simple, being able to succeed and win requires a bit more strategy. If you asked them, the best Boggle players would almost certainly admit to doing a lot of the same things every time they play. The following is a collection of these basic Boggle tips that are sure to improve your score on a few points. Try implementing a couple of these tips every time you play Boggle and your enjoyment of the game will only increase.
- Plural form: Once you find a word on the Boggle board, always make sure to also look for the plural form (i.e. cat and cats). Missing out the plural form of a word is a common newbie mistake!
- Last: If you find a Boggle word, check for other verb tenses (i.e. tie and tie). Similar to looking up words in the plural, if there is a “d” or “ed” available on the Boggle board, you can probably form many past tense variants.
- Expand the word: After finding a short Boggle word, see if you can add letters to make it an even longer word (i.e. act and react).
- Find a word within the word: After finding a long boggle word, see if there are any words within the word (i.e. train and rain, or play and lie down … and play and lie down and can, etc.). Add suffixes or prefixes.
- Rhythmic words: Look for Boggle words that rhyme, such as cat, mat, hat, sitting, flat, spit, etc.
- Don’t look at the timer: Keep an eye on the timer while playing Boggle, but don’t focus too much on it or it will distract you.
