Hair thinning is not limited to aging people. Many of those who are young and middle-aged have fine or genetically thin hair. Fortunately, there are three sensible solutions that work and will leave you looking your best. With this short guide, you can consider whether (1) Haircuts, (2) Camouflage, or (3) Hair pieces will work best for you. Since none of these ways are difficult or expensive, why not try all three and use them at different times.

One: haircuts / hairstyle

To give your hair a fuller look, men and women can use their hairdresser or hairdresser to style their hair to the perfect cut to disguise hair thinning.

For women, one of the best looks for thinning hair is adding curls. They make it harder to see your scalp while providing a full, floating look. Limit the length of this style to your shoulders. Layer hair with shorter layers on top while increasing the length and dulling the ends. “Sprinkle” or curl your hair with a gel by rolling a handful of hair into a ball in your hand and then blow-dry it upside down, while continuing to “sprinkle” your hair, to give it volume. Or use a curling iron to add those curls.

The best women’s styles for thinning hair are short. A shorter cut will return some bounce and fullness to those thinned out tresses. A great short cut is the spiky, boyish look like actress Sharon Gless in Alarming news. It takes a bit of gel and the right temperament to know that this contemporary look is for you. Another short cut is the bob, which is a cut that has no layers. It has blunt ends that fall on the jaw line and give a feeling of fullness and thickness. These shorter looks can also be varied with curls or bangs.

For men, try a long haircut with some gel to give yourself a young and modern look. This works well with many celebrities and TV personalities like NBC’s Matt Lauer, who has thinning hair. The look is a short tapered cut that will minimize the loss at the top. Also, men can comb their hair back to look like an 80s Wall Street stockbroker. It has become an attractive classic professional look that disguises baldness or thinning at the back of the head.

A short spiky look from Malcolm McDowell is popular and in style. It can be modified to “fake hawk “or messy look to lift hair. It’s a great style for any man who has thinning at the temples. You can cut the sides very short by gradually lengthening the hair as it reaches the crown. With a little hair gel and a slightly messy look, this hairstyle looks both professional and smart.

Two: camouflage

Whether they are called hair loss concealers or filler powders, all of these camouflage powders come in different colors to match your hair color and cover your scalp to make it disappear and look like hair. Some examples are products like Joan Rivers’ Great Hair Day, Toppik, Couvre, and Derma Match. Any of them can work for men or women. Camouflage powder has healthy fibers for hair growth and you sprinkle it on the parts of your hair and the areas where you see the white of your scalp. The powdered area is closer to your hair color and doesn’t show as much. Only if someone is examining your scalp with a magnifying glass can you notice that your hair is thin and that you are actually looking at your scalp. You should use these powders sparingly because they can clump together. They can also appear on your shoulder, so use a towel during application to avoid this.

Three: Hair Pieces

Both men and women can add hairpieces, toupees, or extensions to hide hair loss. These don’t have to look awkward and fake like they have in the past. There are so many advancements in this area that even reasonably priced hair pieces can be made from human hair and have enough subtlety to look like your real hair.

Some very small hair pieces will cover only one problem area, such as the crown, part line, and bangs area. With a little research, you can find a piece that matches your hair color and texture. It may require some trial and error, but it can successfully “cut” a large piece. Online or in person, someone can teach you how to put the hair piece in correctly and it will look just like yours. So many women wear extensions to get the look of a full head of long hair that a men’s hair piece, extensions, or toupees should be considered a common practice and not something to be embarrassed about wearing.

A note on permanent concealment

Growing your own hair back is the ideal way to hide and end your weakened hair. However, it takes months or years, daily dedication, and a process to find the right nutrients for you. On the other hand, the only way to permanently change (not just “hide”) your thinning hair is through the surgical process of transplanting hair follicles from the back of the head to the thinning top and forehead.

While many don’t have the money, the interest, or a sufficient case of thinning hair to want supplements and creams for hair growth or implant surgery, the top three ways to hide and hide your thinning hair are (1) a hair cut in a flattering style, (2) camouflaging her scalp with powders that match her hair color, and (3) a colored and cut hair piece to match her real hair. These are great methods that will make you feel wonderful by simply enhancing your own hair.
