“Mom I’m hungry”. If you receive a rupee every time your son tells you that; you would already be a millionaire.

Children’s ability to develop an appetite at any time of the day is simply amazing. Whether it’s the after-school mini-meal or the post-game snack, they love their daily allotment of food! We have all gone through the same growth phase.

However, organizing healthy meals for children may not always be so easy. These binges between meals are actually the main reason behind obesity in children. While it may be hard for you to turn down their demands for snacks, you can always make sure what they eat is healthy. After all, the habit of healthy eating in children starts at home.

Make your kids some tasty homemade snacks, which are as easy as making instant noodles, but much more nutritious! Make your children’s health your priority with these healthy snacks:

Fruit flavored milk:

Milk and fruit are a good way to substitute chips and soda for that afternoon snack. Make it great by mixing them both! Use fruits like strawberries, peaches or berries mixed with low-fat milk to make a delicious glass of fruit smoothie, filled to the brim with health.

Oatmeal Pancakes:

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is also the fastest. Make the most of every second by making a super quick pancake made with oatmeal. Served with eggs, they take less than 5 minutes to prepare. The carbohydrates and protein make it a good food for children.

Green skewers:

Feeding children green vegetables is like taking on the hardest job on the planet. Trick them into eating spinach and peas by cooking up some healthy “green” kebabs. Put in some potatoes for a balanced meal. They make great snacks for kids and can be served at any time of the day.

Yogurt dessert:

Swap out those unhealthy sundaes loaded with fat and sugar with a cup of fruit yogurt. Sweeten some Greek yogurt with a little honey, mix it with berries, and freeze it as popsicles. Suddenly, dessert becomes a healthy food for children.

Sweet Fries:

When hunger strikes, children often reach for bags of potato chips. Give your fries a healthy twist by using sweet potatoes instead of potatoes. Don’t fry them, instead bake them until crisp and serve with homemade cilantro sauce.

As much as we like to keep our children happy, we also like to see them healthy. Junk food may be the easiest option when it comes to snacking, but it does more harm than good to your children’s health. So grab that apron and just take 5 minutes out of your busy schedule to whip up some healthy snacks. Who said healthy food can’t be fun?
