Enigma is considered the King of all Armor in PvP (Player vs. Player) game. He requires an extremely rare Rune (Jah), but offers all non-Sorceress characters to use the most prized Skill for PvP: Teleport. It’s a crucial ability for many PvP builds, but especially for paladins who use the blessed hammer ability as their primary attack (commonly known as Hammerdins). Paladins who use the Smite ability (commonly known as Smiters) also find Enigma attractive armor, due to the +2 to all abilities.

15% of damage taken goes to mana

+ (1 per character level) +1-99% increased chance to drop magic items (based on character level)

+2TB All Skills

Only 2 Runewords that are used in Body Armor have +2 to All Skills and that is Chains of Honor and Enigma.

+2 to all abilities is an attractive mod for casters and melee characters alike, but it’s arguably the most useful for paladins who use the Smite ability for their main attack, due to the fact that there are only two ways a Smiter can increase the damage done by their Smite abilities: +Damage modifier (numerical value) or a +To All abilities modifier. + To All Skill modifiers add more levels to the following paladin skills, all of which are used by Smiters to increase their damage potential: Smite, Holy Shield, and Fanaticism Aura. So it’s no surprise that items with the +A modifier to all abilities are attractive to Smiters.

+45% faster run/walk

An essential mod for PvP gameplay as it allows your character to run and walk faster.

+1 TB to teleport

This is the superstar Enigma Runeword mod.

Teleportation is a skill from the Sorceress’ Lightning Spells skill tree. Allows the user to teleport anywhere within their immediate vicinity. It can be used to escape from tough monsters, to go through a level at a very fast pace.

It’s easy to see why this ability is so useful for Diablo 2 players engaging in PvP: you can catch your opponent by surprise by teleporting directly onto them and unleash your fiercest attacks and destroy them in seconds.

Nowhere is this more apparent than with Hammerdins.

Paladins using the Blessed Hammer ability typically have two other maxed abilities as well: Blessed Aim and Vigor, which are synergistic abilities for Blessed Hammer and increase Blessed Hammer’s damage to awesome builds. Add to that the fact that no one is immune to magic damage dealt by hammers (except one monster in the entire game), and you have a very powerful build for both PvM (Players vs. Monsters) and PvP.

However, with Hammerdins, they have to like their Hammers correctly. If they make even a small mistake, the Hammers’ bow might miss its mark, leaving the Hammerdins vulnerable to a counterattack. This is difficult when they are covering the distance towards their intended target.

However, with the ability to Teleport, they can simply teleport into space above their target (not directly on top, but at an optimized distance based on the Hammers’ arc) and unleash their Hammers, which will decimate their opponent in one or two hits.

Damage reduced by 8%

Many players try to put on at least one item that has a % resistance to physical damage, for the simple reason that it reduces the damage taken from successful attacks.

+14 health after each kill

This mod is very good for characters who can kill a lot of monsters in a short amount of time. The aforementioned Hammerdin excels at this and thus benefits greatly from this mod.

+ (1 per character level) +1-99% increased chance to drop magic items (based on character level)

In addition to all the awesome mods mentioned above, Enigma also comes with a level dependent bonus to MF, so it’s not only good for PvP, but MF Runs as well.

Summary:

Any player who is serious about their PvP gameplay will want to invest in this armor. While it may require a very expensive Rune Jah, the ability to teleport is well worth it. Obviously, witches might not find it that useful, but the bonus life after each kill and the boost to run/walk faster might make this armor attractive to them too. Smiters who participate in PvP can also enjoy Enigma, for the +2 to All Abilities, but if they prefer PvM play, they usually choose Call to Honor, due to the incredible Stamina increases that runeword offers.
