There is a dog for everyone; there are couch potatoes, dogs that make good running companions, and those who love to play with children. There are guard dogs, water dogs, and dogs that make wonderful walking companions. Give me your situation and I know I can find the perfect dog for you. All it takes is a little thought and a little information. I know what it’s like to search for the perfect dog, as I went through the same process when I wanted to add a new dog to our family; however, I knew that just because I thought a dog was cute or cool, it didn’t mean it would work for my lifestyle.

I would love to have a Yorkie, but I am afraid that the grooming requirements will make me resent the little one, rather than love him. I think huskies are beautiful, but I don’t like cold weather…or running 10 miles a day. We would both be miserable. I also love Beagles, Poodles, and Scotties; but i know i could never fully appreciate any of them because beagles require more exercise than i want to give them, poodles need more grooming than i am willing to, and scotties are too terrier for me!

When you have the right breed of dog for you, the relationship between the two of you is much friendlier. There is no resentment about having to take care of the dog, because your dog’s requirements match only what you are willing to do. There is no guilt in living your life and leaving the dog at home because your dog is automatically incorporated into your life. In essence, the relationship between you and your dog is much stronger because you like the same things and participate in the same types of activities.

Bringing a dog into your life is a wonderful endeavor, but making sure you adopt the right one will ensure that the dog becomes a part of the family…and not the evil stepsister, but a real contributing member.
