You’ve decided you’re ready to have your first boudoir photos taken and now you’re starting to doubt yourself. You don’t know how to pose, you never look good in photos, you’re nervous in front of the camera, you have stretch marks… stop! Relax and trust your photographer. As trained professionals, it’s our job to make it look fabulous in the final product. There are a few things to avoid to help the session run smoothly.

No tan. Absolutely no tan before your photo session. Fake tans and tan lines will look bad in your photos. Post-processing can’t always correct bad tan lines. Your skin will look beautiful in the final product, you don’t need to tan.

Don’t worry about a break. If you have a flare up before the session, don’t panic and think you need to cancel. A great makeup artist and post-processor can take care of these minor issues.

Don’t go in hungry. Most photography sessions last a few hours. Have a light meal before the session so you don’t feel hungry.

Don’t wear tight clothing. A few hours in that tight top is going to leave lines and marks on your skin. Wear something baggy in the hours leading up to your scheduled session.

Do not bring anyone to your shoot. Husbands, boyfriends, and children tend to be in the way and cause distractions. Most studios do not offer a waiting area. In most cases, it is allowed to take a girlfriend with you so that she supports you, but only one.

Don’t forget your nails. Your fingernails and toenails will appear in your photos. It’s a great idea to schedule a manicure the day before your session.

Don’t neglect your hair. A few days before the session, you should touch up your hair color to look your best. This must be done at least two days before the session.

Don’t wear tiny jewelry. Small jewelry tends to fade in the photo and sometimes cause a distraction, while large, chunky, shiny jewelry looks better.

Don’t use glitter. Glitter doesn’t photograph well at all. In fact, it often appears as little white dots and can ruin a great photo.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you want full nude photos, just let your photographer know. Is there a pose, accessory, or outfit that your husband is excited about? Tell your photographer what can be done so you have some special shots just for him.

Just relax. Boudoir sessions are fun and you are going to have a great time. Don’t worry about your imperfections, no one is perfect and men love us anyway. Proper posing and lighting done by your photographer will hide your worst assets and bring out your best. In the end, you will have a great set of photos that will make you feel glamorous and sexy.
