The secret to making a profit betting on horses is to place more good bets than bad. While that may seem ridiculously simple, it is also the key to making money and therefore it is very important to fully understand it.

This is what I mean. Let’s say you make fifty bets of $ 20 in a week. It doesn’t matter if we are talking about exotics or winning bets. You win 20% of those bets, but lose $ 100 over the course of the week. You have $ 900 left. How can you reverse it and make a profit next week?

One way is to eliminate the bets you made on races that had too many variables or unknowns. I’m talking about horses being embarked, horses coming back from layoff, or other situations where you’re scratching your head and trying to figure out how to handle the horse. This is what I recommend, turn the page.

Just go through the entire race and keep going until you find one that has horses that have races on the track and in the distance and have raced recently. All those variables are what will catch you over and over again. The beauty of this method is that as you get used to using it, you can scan the races and quickly decide if they deserve a closer look and an in-depth handicap.

That means, by eliminating the losers, you will save time that you can spend on the court having fun. It also means that you can earn more money. In the example above, you lost 10% of your funds. Perhaps ten of those fifty races you played had so many variables and unknowns that they could have been viewed as unplayable and overlooked races.

If you could have eliminated just ten races where you wasted $ 20 per race, that’s $ 200. So instead of playing fifty races, you would have played forty races and spent $ 800 instead of $ 1,000. But you would still have had the same number of winners and raised the same amount, so your $ 100 loss would turn into a $ 100 gain. You would also have saved time and suffered much less stress.

There are some races that simply cannot be calculated and those races should be dropped, ignored. You can scan any racing program and spot some of them by finding the horses that pose too many questions and leave you scratching your head. Just say “no” to bad races and turn your losers into winners.
