E-readers are poised to revolutionize the way we consume media in the same way that mp3 players revolutionized the way we listen to music. E-readers like Barnes and Noble’s Nook and Amazon’s Kindle are about to redefine how media is delivered to the end user. All kinds of content types can now be downloaded in seconds, which means we can get our daily media instantly, share content, and never run out of shelf space. For some, this revolution has already happened.

Many people will now consider buying an e-reader, but will not know where to start. There are basically two (or three, in your opinion of the Sony Reader) big players in this market – people are wondering, should I buy the Nook or the Kindle?

The first great product when it comes to e-readers was Amazon’s Kindle. Many of the early users joined in and were impressed, but there were also obvious holes in the user experience. Sony’s offering didn’t cause much of a stir and the market was ready for a fresh approach. The next big question that came up was ‘should I buy Nook?’. Barnes and Noble’s Nook came out and it seems to have set a new standard.

The good points of Nook are pretty easy to find.

The Nook is a true reading experience

The screen is like paper, so there are no reflections or eyestrain from the backlight. The Nook lends itself both to being used outdoors in the sun and by the fireplace indoors.

Fast downloads

With free wi-fi connectivity and a sleek interface, a book can be downloaded in seconds.

The Nook lets you ‘lend’ your books to your friends

This is an exclusive feature of Nook by B&N. Quite a classy approach for those who wish to try before they buy.

So is that enough to qualify me to say buy Nook and don’t look back? Well, only you can decide which e-reader is right for you, but the Nook certainly makes a decent case against its competitors.
