Have you ever noticed that children always pick flowers? Nobody teaches them how to do it, they just do it. It’s like they gravitate towards them in spring and summer. I remember when my daughter was about two years old and my dad would bring me flowers and she wanted to smell and touch them. It’s almost like an instinct to admire flowers and appreciate their beauty. As much as we teach our children, some things seem to come already instilled in them. It amazes me to see little children pick flowers for their moms and how proud they are when they do it. Mother’s Day is a big holiday for flowers for this reason alone. It seems that children as young as two know that flowers make their moms happy.

When I was a child, I didn’t pay attention to the different types of flowers, I just knew that I liked them all. Now I understand that for me, each type of flower means something different to me. For example, receiving roses is a sign of love. The smell of a fragrant hyacinth reminds me of Easter, because my dad has given me one every year for as long as I can remember. Then, of course, you have the sunflowers, which brings me back to when I was about 4 years old at my grandmother’s house, because she grew them in her backyard.

Giving flowers has also become a tradition for most people on Mother’s Day. The tradition is passed down from generation to generation but what it means to the mother can be different for each person. Why don’t you try giving your mom a new type of flower every year so she can create a new memory and associate it with the flower?

Needless to say, it seems like we were born to love flowers and to know that we can make our moms happy just by giving them a few. Mother’s Day seems like the perfect day to make sure we make our mom happy by giving her the one thing we’ve been giving her our entire lives. No matter what type of flower you decide suits your mom best, you can never go wrong when trying to make your mom feel special and loved on Mother’s Day than when you give her a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
