Do you know what to do when someone tells lies about you? Let’s be honest. There are people who have nothing better to do and enjoy ruining other people’s lives. But that doesn’t mean you have to play the victim all the time.

While such a situation seems hopeless, there are actually things you can do when someone tells lies about you.

1) Don’t be hysterical.

Calm down. Going into hysterics won’t help your case one bit. In fact, creating a ruckus will only serve to further fuel the gossip.

Even if you can’t control what other people think, you can at least control how you react. Stay calm and deal with lies professionally. When people ask you about it, tell them bluntly that the rumor is not true.

2) Confront this “someone.”

One of the things to do when someone tells lies about you is to cut off the source. That doesn’t mean you have the leeway to bully or harass that person.

Confrontation in this sense means talking to this person in a civil way and asking what made him think you were this or that. Try to understand where the problem originated and you might be able to fix it just fine.

3) Tell your boss.

It’s a whole different ballgame when this person refuses to stop spreading lies. If you are in a work situation, the best thing to do when someone is lying about you is to tell your supervisor.

You’ve done everything you can for yourself, but nothing seems to work. This is not just a petty fight, but something that could ruin your career. Approach your boss from this professional angle and he’ll be more likely to respond to your situation.

Now, you know what to do when someone tells lies about you. Don’t lower yourself to that person’s level. Be so mature and professional about it. Don’t lose confidence, but don’t be hysterical either.
